What I Have Done

I moved to private practice care after 10 years in community mental health services. I have worked in residential programs for traumatized teenagers, in locked inpatient mental health communities, addiction/recovery programs (both live-in and day treatment) as well as in emergency rooms and travel in-home programs doing safety and suicide screenings. My entire career has been built on helping people who have been separated from their homes and their families to find treatment and care. My goal now is to help people before they get to crisis and before they need residential care. I want my patients to be able to stay in their homes, with their comfort items and primary support people. I believe this is a better and more effective way to find wellness while at the same time encouraging family and loved ones to work and become well together.

How I Can Help

With You Every Step of the Way

Momming Is Hard

Being pregnant is HARD. Labor and Delivery is HARD. Having a baby is HARD. Raising your kids and watching them grow up is HARD. Moms in our communities and culture are supposed to believe "the good always out weighs the bad" but, as a mom, I know that is not always the case. There are sleepless nights, serious mommy-shaming, family judgments, and that's before we even consider our kids' communities. If you need some advice, support, perspective, re-framing, or even just an outlet, let me know. I can help. Babies in arms welcome, breast and bottle feeding friendly. Children in-room for mom's care must be under the age of two.

Children and Teens

The relationship between kids (children and through teen years) and their parents can be completely challenging for a myriad of reason. Kids and parents communicate differently. Sometimes kids need someone to talk to but feel their parents won't understand  (despite the fact we all were teenagers at some point!). I can help be a sounding board for kids and teens, I can promote child and parent communication, provide education as well as interventions for depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues. I can help heal those challenges while at the same time encouraging family bonding.

Managing Stressors

In my experience, when people (of all ages) are struggling with serious and overwhelming challenges, sometimes they turn to un-safe and in the moment coping skills to regulate and soothe their struggles. Unsafe coping skills can be anything from substance use disorder, eating disorders, self injurious behaviors, or even cigarette smoking. The desire to calm the inner-turmoil (whether it is long term abuse and neglect, or more immediate stress and overwhelming feelings, I can help you learn to replace the negative behaviors and deal with the turmoil in a safe and secure way.

Benefit from my professional experience and wide range of psychological services.

About Me...

Hi everyone! My name is Jillian Garofano-Staines and I have opened my private practice in Northborough Ma.  I have been working in community mental health for the past 10 years. I know ICBAT/CBAT as well as inpatient care (mental health and substance abuse) and spent three years supporting individuals in the emergency room through crisis situations. I have worked with kids as young as 6 through adulthood as well as geriatric care. I am trained in CBT, DBT, ARC, and Psychological First Aid. I have a lot of experience with helping to manage processing trauma and treating maladaptive coping skills (self injury, substance use, eating disorder, etc). I feel comfortable working with teens and children who struggle in home, school, or the community as well as adults managing extreme stress or needing support in their home or work communities. Currently accepting Blue Cross Blue Shield, Optum Products, and Aetna.

Bottom line is, life can be really overwhelming and stressful sometimes and I believe with support, care, feedback, and skill building we can make the tough times easier and the wonderful times even better.
